After the whole Canary Wharf fiasco, engendered by Torchwood One’s arrogance, Jack would have thought the handful of survivors would all have been resolutely determined to leave everything Torchwood far behind. And they were, all except one.

Ianto Jones. From what Jack had been able to dredge up from the wreckage of One’s servers, he’d been a junior researcher, although that wouldn’t have kept him from being caught up in the carnage. Cybermen and Daleks had swept through every level and sublevel of the tower; no one had been spared. Those who’d survived only did so because they’d been overlooked amongst the dead. And yet, despite what he must have been through, young Mister Jones wanted back in.

He was keen, Jack had to give him that. From going up against a Weevil with only a tree branch as a weapon, clearly trying to prove his capabilities, to stalking Jack with the most delicious coffee he’d ever tasted, Jones seemed determined to keep chipping away at Jack’s resistance. Well, tough, because it wouldn’t work. No matter how keen he might be, Torchwood Three had no place for an ex-Torchwood One employee. Jack held firm.

Until Ianto offered him a Pterodactyl…
