Setting: During the manga.
Summary: Dee is having a miserable day, and just wants to go home.
Disclaimer: I don’t own FAKE, or the characters. They belong to the wonderful Sanami Matoh.
A/N: Double drabble.
Ryo was driving as they left work, and Dee wasn’t paying much attention. Tired and fed up thanks to a frustrating day where he and his partner had hit one dead-end after another with their investigations, what made everything worse was the date: September 23rd. Not that anyone had remembered. Then, just as he was almost completely zoned out, instead of going straight ahead at a junction, Ryo turned right.
Dee sat up straighter. “Where’re ya goin’?”
“Just a slight detour,” Ryo replied, taking another right turn. “Got a quick errand to run.”
“Aw, man!” Dee grumbled. “I was just wantin’ to get home.”
“Won’t take long,” Ryo assured his lover, pulling into a vacant parking spot. “Fifteen or twenty minutes, half an hour at the most. You can wait in the car if you want.”
With a heavy sigh, Dee unclipped his seatbelt. “Nah, I’ll come with.” He dragged himself out of the car and followed his lover through the backdoor of a building, wondering where they were. It was dark inside.
And then it wasn’t. Lights came on, and there stood all his friends, grinning at him. “Surprise!”
Ryo smiled. “Happy Birthday, Dee.”
Suddenly Dee wasn’t tired anymore.
