Disclaimer: I don’t own FAKE, or the characters. They belong to the wonderful Sanami Matoh.
A/N: Double drabble.
“I was never mechanically minded growing up,” Ryo admitted, leaning into the car’s engine compartment beside Dee. “My dad wasn’t either; if something went wrong he called Triple A or the nearest garage. How come you know so much about the inner workings of cars?”
“Jess.” Dee smiled at the memory. “He had this big old ’59 Plymouth Fury he and his dad practically rebuilt from a wreck they picked up cheap. His dad was an auto mechanic, expected Jess to follow in his footsteps, but Jess was dead set on becomin’ a cop. Still, he learned a helluva lot and started teachin’ me when I was about eleven or twelve. I would’a agreed to anything just to spend time hangin’ out with him, just the two of us, but it was fun. Back then I thought he knew everything worth knowin’.”
“You were lucky to have him in your life. I wish I could’ve met him.”
“Yeah, so do I; he was a good guy, even though he wound up bein’ a bad cop. Least I can do is pass on what he taught me, right? I’ll teach you and you can teach Bikky. It’ll be like Jess’s legacy.”
