A/N: Triple drabble.
Ryo was sitting on the sofa, staring blankly into space, when Dee arrived home from playing handyman at the orphanage. He didn’t even respond when Dee spoke to him, which was reason enough for Dee to worry. Sometimes Ryo drifted off into a world of his own, usually because he was puzzling over a case they were working on, but he’d never completely ignored Dee, like he wasn’t even there.
“Babe? You okay?” Dee moved in front of his partner, crouching down to meet Ryo’s eyes, and reaching for his hand.
Dark eyes blinked, finally registering Dee’s presence. “Oh, you’re back. That was fast.”
“Yeah, I’m back, but it’s been almost four hours. What’s goin’ on, babe? Talk to me.”
“Bikky called. After you left.”
“Is he okay? Is Carol?”
“They’re fine.” Ryo still looked dazed. “They’re having a baby.”
“Seriously? That’s awesome news!” Seeing the expression on Ryo’s face, Dee hastened to ask, “It is awesome, right?”
“What? Oh, yes, of course it is. I’m happy for them.” He frowned at Dee. “But I’m going to be a grandad! How can I be a grandad when I’m only thirty-eight? I’m too young!”
Dee snickered. Not that he didn’t want to be supportive of his partner, but the craziest things could send Ryo’s world off-kilter. “That’s what ya get for adoptin’ a kid who’s only seventeen years younger than you. Shouldn’t ya be more concerned about Biks becomin’ a dad at twenty-one?”
Somehow Ryo managed to look even more stunned. “I hadn’t thought about that! He’s hardly more than a kid, and Carol isn’t much older!”
“They’re married,” Dee pointed out. “You must’ve known they’d start poppin’ out kids sooner or later, you know they’ve both said they want a big family.”
“I know, just thought it would be later.”
