Characters: Dee, Ryo.
Rating: PG
Setting: After the manga.
Summary: The already unsettled weather in New York is taking a turn for the worse.
Written Using: The dw100 prompt ‘Vortex’.
Disclaimer: I don’t own FAKE, or the characters. They belong to the wonderful Sanami Matoh.
A/N: Triple drabble.
Stepping outside, Dee shivered. “Man, that wind’s got a bite to it! Did the polar vortex turn around and come back? Shouldn’t need gloves and a scarf in summer!”
Ryo fastened his coat. “Global warming has gotten the weather everywhere screwed up. Europe’s sweltering in a record-breaking heatwave, Britain’s getting nothing but rain and low temperatures, and we’re getting cold winds and severe storms.”
Pulling on leather driving gloves, Dee squinted up at the sky, scowling. “Speakin’ of which, looks like there’s another storm on the way. Days like this, I’d almost rather stay at the precinct doin’ paperwork where it’s at least dry and, I’m not riskin’ frostbite in summer.”
“Unfortunately for us, crime doesn’t conveniently stop for bad weather.” Ryo led the way down the steps, heading for the motor pool and the unmarked sedan they’d be driving.
“D’you ever regret choosin’ a career in law enforcement over a nice, cosy, nine-to-five office job?” Jogging down the steps, Dee caught up to his partner.
“Over an office job? No, but I do sometimes wonder what my life would be like if I’d chosen a different career path. Trouble is, I can’t imagine doing anything else. I spent years growing up trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, but it wasn’t until my parents were killed that I knew what I wanted to be. Even on the worst days, I can’t say I regret my choice.”
“Yeah, I guess I don’t either, most of the time. I could do without all the paperwork, red tape, and sittin’ around in court waitin’ to testify against some scumbag deserves to be locked away for life, but I like knowin’ I’m doin’ somethin’ that matters, even if I haveta sometimes freeze my ass off to do it.”
The End
