Summary: Alun Evans goes on his first jaunt through Cardiff’s sewers.

A/N: Double drabble.
“You can’t say Jack didn’t promise you a life of adventure,” Ianto pointed out.
“Mm,” Alun agreed vaguely. “And I can’t say you didn’t warn me about the downsides.”
“Don’t tell me you’re not enjoying this little jaunt!” Ianto was trying not to smirk, but knew he was failing miserably. “And after I provided you with overalls and rubber boots!!
“Both very much appreciated,” Alun assured his fellow Welshman. “Shame they didn’t come with a gas mask though.”
“It’s a sewer. You have to expect a certain amount of… pungency. Weevils have quite a distinct odour.”
“It’s not just the Weevils.”
“Well, no, but they live down here most of the time, so their personal aroma tends to combine with that of their surroundings. You’ll get used to it.”
“I’m not sure I want to.”
“It’s not really something you get a choice about; it just happens. Humans can be remarkably adaptable.”
“Is that supposed to be comforting?”
“Just a scientific fact. Adaptability is what will allow humanity to colonise other planets in the future. We can adjust to most kinds of environments. And smells.”
“Wonderful.”
“Trust me, it’s not always like this.”
“Yeah?”
“Yep! It’s usually a lot worse.”
