Angel has his soul before the first season of Buffy, but then he turns evil again in mid season 2 when he and Buffy sleep together. A silly caveat to the curse that restored his soul. Buffy kills him at the end of season 2, he spends a few hundred years in a Hell dimension, comes back in early season 3, then goes to L.A. for his own show at the end of season 3 Things ae rather up and down for my favourite Slayer and vampire.
