Characters: Ryo, Dee.
Rating: PG
Setting: After the manga.
Summary: It may not technically be their job, but as police officers, Dee and Ryo can’t just ignore the situation.
Written Using: The dw100 prompt ‘Signal’.
Disclaimer: I don’t own FAKE, or the characters. They belong to the wonderful Sanami Matoh.
A/N: Triple drabble.
They were detectives, not traffic cops, so this really shouldn’t have been their job, but Dee and Ryo had been just across the street when a truck driver had badly misjudged a turn and taken out the traffic signals. The driver was fine, but the truck was badly dented, and the busy intersection was in complete chaos, with no one knowing when to stop and when to go, and the fact that it was rush hour only added to the problem…
With the traffic so snarled up, it was going to take time for uniformed officers to arrive on the scene, and so here were Ryo and Dee, working tirelessly in the haze of exhaust fumes, directing traffic around the crashed truck and fallen signal lights, doing their best to calm irate drivers, all of whom seemed to think they should take priority.
Already Ryo, in an uncharacteristic display of anger, had yelled at one driver to stay put and wait his turn. “Arguing with me won’t make the traffic move any faster, all you’re doing is causing yourself a longer delay! You’d be on your way by now if you hadn’t tried to squeeze through when it wasn’t your turn! I could arrest you right now for causing an obstruction! Whatever you might think, you are NOT more important than every other driver stuck in this mess! They’re all trying to get somewhere the same as you!”
Dee hid a smirk as he directed three more cars past the one that had tried to sneak through after being told to wait. Maybe one day, people would learn that getting impatient only made a bad situation worse. For his part, all he wanted was to head home and wash off the traffic stink. So much for their relaxing day off.
The End
