A/N: Double drabble.
This was a very civilised way of invading, Ianto thought. No huge army with devastating weapons, no deadly threats along the lines of “Surrender or we’ll destroy you.” The small spaceship had landed on the Plas, two beings had stepped out, and requested converse with the highest authority. Jack had taken that to mean Torchwood, and had led his team out to see what the visitors wanted.
“What can we do for you folks?”
The smaller alien stepped forward.
“I am Gurnitz of Dravaar. This is my Champion, Ortholt.” The alien gestured towards the tall figure behind him. “Select your Champion. The battle will be to the death.”
“What’s the prize?”
“If Ortholt wins, this world will submit to my rule.”
“And if we win?”
“Then I shall leave.”
“Weapons?”
Ortholt opened the case he was carrying. It contained two rapier-like blades.
Jack smiled. “Lovely. Toshiko?”
Tosh stepped forward, selecting a sword and bowing to Ortholt.
The battle was surprisingly brief, and the victory decisive; Ortholt fell, bleeding from a dozen wounds, pleading for mercy.
Tosh spared him.
Graciously accepting defeat, Gurnitz departed.
Owen stared at Tosh. “How’d you do that?”
Tosh shrugged. “Fencing champion in college, three years running.”
