Angel really hadn’t thought things through when he’d let Buffy bring him back to her house after their run-in with The Three. He should have known she wouldn’t want to let him leave after she patched up his wound, worried that the trio of vampires might still be waiting outside to ambush him, or both of them, should they leave their sanctuary, but now it meant he was sort of stuck there.

They’d put on an act after Buffy’s mom had come home, pretending that Angel was tutoring Buffy in history, and then play-acting Angel leaving before she’d snuck him up to her room, where he’d spent the night on the floor beside her bed, but now it was morning, and Buffy was heading off to school. She didn’t know he was a vampire, which was a problem; she’d probably expect him to be gone by the time she got home, and that wasn’t going to happen, because he wouldn’t last five minutes outside in the sunlight. If it had been an overcast day, maybe he could have chanced it, just long enough to make for the bushes at the end of the garden, find shelter there, but…

Would she be freaked out when she got home and found him still in her room? He supposed he’d find out in a few hours. In the meantime, all he could do was sit here and wait, and resist the temptation to poke about among Buffy’s things, trying to learn more about the girl who occupied his every waking thought.

Then the situation took a turn for the worse when he heard Buffy’s mom outside the door. If she came in… He eased the closet door open, slipped inside, concealed himself as best he could right at the back, among Buffy’s clothes, breathing in the scent of her, mixed with the smells of laundry detergent and fabric softener, and hoped that Mrs Summers wouldn’t need to go to the closet for any reason. That would be so much worse than Buffy finding him still in her room. He could imagine Buffy’s mom calling the police about an intruder, and…

He really hadn’t been thinking last night, to get himself into such a ridiculous situation, but all he could do was watch from the closet as Mrs Summers tidied Buffy’s room, made the bed, dusted, and left. That had been way too close.

I would hate being in Angel's position, hiding from Buffy's mom. It would make me so nervous.
